January 2023

As you move into the New Year there is a mix of the expected and the unexpected for this time of year while at the same time, putting on display the diversity that 2023 has to offer. What is not the norm is that for the first time in 12 years the year begins with Jupiter in your relationship sector, making it clear from the start that this will be a big year for all your relationships. While Jupiter only returned just before Christmas it was for the second time in 2022. By the time Jupiter retrograded back out at the end of October he had already been here for five months, making this both a chance for new beginnings and a do over. This time with a better sense of what you want from your relationships and what they need from you from the start. Jupiter returned during the Sun’s last full day in your communication sector so while there is no longer any planetary activity there, there was a chance to start this new chapter with the full support of the communication gods. Meanwhile, as is always the case the Sun will always spend the first three weeks of January in your home and family sector, something that makes home and family matters something that everything else orbits around. Venus will start the year here but will leave on 3rd January, though not before making home and family where your heart is. You also start the month with Mercury, the planet of communication here and in retrograde motion until 19th January he is creating a connection to the past. This also means that when the Sun moves on, he will stay on, continuing to keep the focus on things close to home. It is a day later that on 20th January the Sun will not only return to a fun, playful, romantic and creatively charged part of your chart but will join Venus, who returned on 3rd January and Saturn, in his final two months of a three year journey by then. A New Moon on 22nd January is a chance to fully embrace this.

Moving into the New Year really is an opportunity for a fresh start and that includes on both the romantic and relationship fronts. The love and relationship gods have gone above and beyond to get the year off to a good start on both fronts and in a way that sets the scene for the rest of the year. It was just before Christmas that Jupiter returned to your relationship sector less than eight weeks after retrograding back out. However, the planet that returned last month is not the same planet that left at the end of October, with the focus not only on the future but with the determination to move forward with confidence. As we move into the New Year the Moon is just leaving your relationship sector, allowing you to begin the year emotionally and intuitively engaged and with your first sense of Jupiter’s influence and the confidence he brings. By the time the Moon returns from 26th January to 28th January Jupiter will have been here for over a month and you will have a better sense of his influence and especially when it comes to his focus on a fresh start and new beginnings. It is Eris’ direct turn here on 12th January that will close the last door to the past, setting you free to fully embrace the future. On the romantic front things are just as empowered with Venus, the planet of love joining Saturn in your romantic sector on 3rd January for the last time here for another three decades. While Saturn is here until March, Venus will leave on 27th January. As Venus works to make these some of the most romantically charged weeks of the year, Saturn will be giving you the power to move mountains if you have to. Venus will still be here when the Sun returns on 20th January, the point in each year when the solar spotlight will always shift onto matters of the heart. It is two days later that the Moon will not only return for its first visit to your romantic sector for the year on 22nd January but as the first New Moon of 2023.

It is less that both sides of the financial fence are in a state of limbo and more that they have reached a point where things should be balanced, stable and there is a chance to pause. Behind the scenes and even though there is no planetary activity in your income sector, the lunar nodes continue to maintain a balance between money coming in and money going out. However, in a less visible way than during the eclipses that they created on both sides of the financial fence just a few months ago. It was just before Christmas that the Moon’s last visit to your income sector for the year coincided with Jupiter’s final days in your work sector. With work and job matters also taking a chance to pause and settle, this allows you to move into the year with confidence and awareness on the income and job fronts but without any urgency. While there is planetary activity on the other side of the financial fence, where the focus is more on what you do with and how you manage the money you have, with Uranus coming to a standstill ahead of a direct turn in your financial sector on 23rd January there is no urgency there either. Instead, this is more a chance to tie up loose ends and even take care of any housekeeping, knowing that Jupiter will be returning in May to begin your biggest year for financial growth and expansion in over a decade. This makes the Moon’s first visit to your two money houses an important chance to check in and get your bearings on both sides of the financial fence. The Moon will return to your financial sector on New Year’s Day, allowing you to begin the year with your financial instincts fuelled and imagination and emotionally and intuitively engaged from the start. It is two weeks later that the Moon will return to your income sector from 16th January to 18th January, where it can sharpen your nose for money and act as a trigger. Two weeks later the Moon will return to your financial sector from 28th January to 30th January, in a pattern that will see it visit one then the other of your two money houses every 14 days.
